TEXT SCAM: Technology evolves as well as scams. This latest scam takes advantage of the popularity of text messages. According to ABS-CBNNEWS.COM, text scams involve the sending of fraudulent text messages to victims. These text messages tell the victims that they have won raffle prizes, which include cash, vehicles and even houses. However, the main purpose of these scams is to steal your identity or bank accounts information. Read more here.

CANADIAN SCAM: Don’t be fooled. Banks are not easily offering loans to individuals because the economic crisis is making it very difficult for people to pay loans back. Therefore, whenever a bank or representative of a strange company or bank offers you a loan, you should be very skeptical. The following is one of the latest scams involving loans. According to UCDDAILYNEWS.COM, a bogus loan company called a Cookeville woman and offered her a loan with an up-front fee. The upfront fee was $800 USC and the loan was for 5,000 USC. She could not afford the $800 and decided to call them and they settled for $700. She sent the money to North York Ontario, Canada via Western Union after which the Secor Loan Center said the $5000 loan amount would be transferred to her account. The company vanished and stole the upfront fee the victim paid. Read more here.

FAKE WEBSITE SCAM: This scam involves the setup of bogus websites to represent legitimates institutions. According to the LATIMES, fraudsters include misspellings that use a double “V” to simulate a “W,” as in the fake bankofthevvest.com. Furthermore, the number “1″ has been used as a stand-in for the letter “L,” as in www.paypa1.com. Read more here.
